Why the $%^& do libertarians care so much about my trash?
Another day, another post about my insane hometown of Wichita.
This time the fight is over trash service. Currently the city has several trash companies that roam around, cherry picking customers. On any given day several trucks will travel down the same road stopping at various houses. As one might imagine, this wastes gas and tears up roads.
The city has a new proposal that would divide the city up into grids, and each current company would provide service to a grid at a pre-negotiated price. The negotiated price is CHEAPER for 80% of the citizens. But, like in other cities the tea partiers will have no part in this. Here’s a few of the comments from the Wichita newspaper linked above:
Talk about socialized government. Lets keep the city out of trash
It is just like the City to stick their nose where it doesn’t belong!!!
you greety people at city hall ,you just want your hands in everyone buisness and pocket ,all your going do is out price what people can afford and people will be dumping trash all over the city and tax payers will have to pay more to have it picked up ,why dont you stay outta others buisnesses ,you just f——- greedy ,like the 380million you collect for taxes aint enough already you got to want to charge more then people can afford, ill dump it on you block then maybe youll stay outta my business
Keep the DAMN politians out of our pocket book/wallet/purse. They are getting enough KICK-Backs as it is
We have Washington dictating our health care, now we are to have Wichita dictating our trash service. Don’t we have enough of government taking our choices away?
Don’t let this happen. Next thing you know… they’ll be telling you where to buy your groceries.
GET THESE GOVERNMENT LIBERAL MEATHEADS OUT OF HERE!! … Just another government intrusion into our personal choices. Stop the insanity.
I wish government would just stay out of my life and stop taking my freedom of choice away from me!
Odd. I see four problems here.
1) Their “choice” eliminates the choice of paying less for 80% of the citizens.
2) Wichita had city-provided trash service just a few years ago, before allowing private companies to come in. We weren’t living in some kind of tyranny then, so why would this cause all the evil to start? Afterall, private companies are still making money and running the business.
3) It’s friggin’ trash. Anyone who’s ever lived in a big city like Chicago knows that anything left on the curb is snatched up within ten minutes anyway. So why do they care who hauls their unwanted shit away? Governments have a responsibility to provide for the welfare of the people. Trash & sanitation are a perfect example of that. If private companies can’t do it without polluting more and tearing up roadways, then the government has to help them do it.
4) It’s not “big gubberment.” It’s a small city. Move if you don’t like it. The city of Wichita doesn’t supersede the constitution, so there’s no possible way they can take your freedom.
